I Need More Food...and Milk
Hello all.
I visited the Oral Comm Center for help on my speech and I am now doing my speech on the life of Walt Disney. Woo. Does everyone know about him being supposedly anti-Seminist, afraid of mice, and his head being frozen and hidden somewhere on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.
The Cheese and Crackers thing was good. Lots of mingling done, but it was all small talk. I don't think anyone will really be remembered. I was told I look like a sorority girl by someone on my floor lol I wish.
I don't know what happened to the day! But then again, I slept a good chunk of it away...and speaking of sleep...
Goodnight!
Thanks!
God Bless!

Quick Update 9-19-10
Hello all!
I am actually working on my homework!! :)
Anyways, I went to bed at two this morning. I was watching a musical by myself and reading Vampire Knight. I got up around ten and showered and ate and made a Halloween playlist on YouTube. Right now, I'm listening to A Disney Halloween.
I am SO in a Halloween mood. I want to watch some Halloween movies.
Anyways (yes, I say that often :P ), the Magic Mirror mentioned something about the butler always being the villain. I remembered last year at camp when I was in charge of some boys for a kind of Who Done It? type of evening game. Anyways, my boys randomly guessed the butler did it...and he did! (The butler had a DEEP voice). Of course, I was up on the chair, too, for providing false info because someone was careless with their paper...
So...I'm not getting far at all for my speech. Urgh. I should get back to work.
Oh! One more notable bit of information! The front of my thighs HURT when I walk from standing yesterday in my uncomfy shoes.
Thanks!
God Bless!
Tiff
PS: I hope to go to the worship service again tonight. Hopefully it'll be better. Wait....I can't! Dang it....Cheese and Crackers...And I gotta go to the library later...

The Wedding Designer
Hello all!!!!
I just got back from my catering job. I ADORED what I did tonight (probably a one time thing). I catered at a wedding reception. I arrived at the place, put on my official shirt and nametag, and went upstairs (it took place in an art gallery...because it was big enough). I helped move things, scoop potatoes onto plates (and chicken and asparagus sometimes). Then I served coffee, picked up plates, and helped put cake onto platters. Then we sat and ate while all the speeches were made. We even got cake (they were out of chocolate sadly...but it was still delicious)! Then we cleaned up the tables while the dance started. It was so elegant! We watched the first dance, and listened to the rest of the sweet songs. Then "I Gotta Feelin'" and "Tik Tok" and "Just Dance" and "Your Love is My Drug" came out while we were cleaning. It was hilarious to watch EVERYONE--and I mean EVERYONE, guys included--dance and sing along to "I Gotta Feelin'" while we worked lol!!!!!
I am now planning my wedding at Disney World. :)
Thanks!

Walking=Dangerous...When Alone
Hello all!
You would not believe how insanely busy I have been. Thursday was all about classes and finishing homework. Then, I /had/ to watch TVD at 10. There's just no stopping it. After my show, I had to start on this 3 page, single-spaced paper. I worked on it from 10:40 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday morning, and from 10:00 a.m. until I was finished at 11:20 a.m. Then I turned it in at 11:50 a.m.!!
I am so frickin' hungry right now. I was unable to find someone to walk with me to Subway or McDonald's so I'm stuck in my room with a peanut butter sandwich and M&M's.
Thanks!

And To Think I Was Excited...
No. I just got back from the symposium...and, boy, am I irked. The speaker was an atheist and tried to talk about how we shouldn't debate Science versus Evolution because it'll get us nowhere (when, in fact, science supports the Bible) so he avoids it. Yet, one of his points was about hierophany, or experience of some sacred manifest which, as I interpreted it, came out as having a spiritual experience (and he says we get it whenever we feel awe).
(The person I was sitting by smelled like old socks).
Urgh...I am quite frustrated and need to do some homework, shower, and go to bed.
May write more tomorrow...
Thanks!

My Room!
I finally got the pics!!
This is the image you see when you first walk into my room. Jasmine's loft in on the left and mine is on the right (with the bathrobe). That is also my desk with the TV and cable cord and light.
When you walk forward into my room and turn around, you see Jasmine's side of the room including her desk and lamp and posters (you can't see her closet, though, because it's behind the loft. She brought the fridge and microwave, but we both use them.
This is my side (pardon my messy desk...it's all homework). You can see my neatly made bed, moonchair, dresser, closet, and bathrobe (it's gotta dry somewhere!).
And this is the view of my desk and wall from my loft (I only took this pic so you could see my cute kitten and mouse poster :) ). And in the back corner is the shared bookshelf for books, food, tupperware, and miscellaneous items such as Kleenexes and straws.
Apparently this is a decent sized room compared to many others. Well, now you know...so come visit me! ;)
Be Sure To Check the Times When I Post
Hello all.
Today is bittersweet. For one, I didn't have half my classes today! But on the downside, I was up so late last night* and still had to get up for my 8 a.m. class. Yuck! I wasn't the only one nodding off and fighting heavy lids during the class though. We took notes on the chapters we just finished quizzing on and reading on our own. How pointless! But upon talking later with someone else, she said we're probably doing this so much because finals are brutal.
I made a playlist on YouTube and took a nap. And ate dinner (it was so freaking packed! I didn't have time to stand in line for lo mein and a fortune cookie or more fries *pout face*).
For Wellness, we had to do this test to see how (un)fit we are. So far, so good. For height and weight, I'm either average or below average. My resting heart rate is quite high. We'll have to continue on Thursday.
*At 9:15, our floor left for Shakey Monday which is where we go to some shake diner and buy one shake, get one free. When we arrived in the timely fashion we did, it was packed! I ordered a hot fudge shake. It was really good! But I don't think I'm going to order a shake again...too thick and it got really rich at the end. Then we had our floor meeting at, like, 10:30 and that went on until 11:30. After, we had to do a roommate contract for half an hour, then I had to take a shower and a quiz. So I went to bed at one this morning and woke at seven.
I want to go to the symposium at 7:30 tonight so I should start on my homework.
Thanks!
God Bless!

Since When Are Mondays Good?
Hello all!
Today has been fabulous so far! I've talked with many people and ran into Squirt from LIC!!
Archaeology was boring as ever though. We took notes on the "barriers" or "traps" that prevent us from thinking critically. It turned into a philosophical debate concerning bias, which I suppose, is interesting, but people were falling asleep in class!

Thanks!

Sunday Night At East
Hello all.
Quick note. I went to Sunday Night at the East complex (basically a worship service with fun songs...but unfortunately I found them a bit boring--but someone told me the songs were off this week and it's not normally like that.) with some floormates (I didn't have a buddy with sadly).
Anyways, what I found quite cool (besides the weather) was how the pastor said "while" and "wheat;" he said those types of words like Stewie said cool "whip" on Family Guy. :P
Then, we had communion. And for those who are wondering, yup! It still tastes as horrible as the wine at church.
Thanks!
God Bless!

First Weekend On Campus
Hello all!
I was totally wrong about what I said about that one girl from the previous post. We went to the concert on campus tonight and had a good time. Then we watched a movie (Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella). It was so much fun. I shouldn't have been so judgemental. I blame
my depression and Internet/TVD addiction for making me so cranky. I really feel terrible.
At the concert, I stood by myself for a good amount of time because my friend had to go get her laundry out of the machine. I texted people. I knew one of the band's songs that they wrote. Afterwards I got a t-shirt (which they signed) and a picture with them! :)
Today Suzanne came up!! I was so excited. We couldn't find each other at first (lol!), but then we walked around the campus. She met Jasmine and saw my oddly shaped, larger-than-the-typical-college-dorm room (and said my side was cleaner. Score!). We ate on campus, then went off-campus to the mall where Suzy bought shoes. We next (still inside the mall) went to this Christian bookstore which was fantabulous! I wanted so many books and this Action Bible and CD's. Suz was all over the CD's and a Vegetales movie. I have never seen a Vegetales movie. I am SO missing out from what I've heard. We ate pretzels (but they didn't taste as good as we thought). And then Suzanne had to boogie home after dropping me back off at...this...place.
Oh! On the long way back (we hit soooo many stoplights), there was this dude in a tripped out SUV from Texas and he had this LOUD bass. So Suzanne turns her iPod to Lecrae and later Trip Lee and rolls down the windows and blasts the music. So fun! We got a couple stares from people. Tehe.
I miss being home and going to football games and hearing about what's new in my friends lives (seriously, peeps, email me!). My parents are texting me overly affectionate phrases that they normally don't even say to me at home.
I'm afraid I wasn't very productive today. I had made a schedule, but a Class Rep Interest meeting kind of screwed my schedule so I was extremely off-task. (As you probably know, I was on TVD forums discussing and dissecting the latest episode and what happened and future possibilities and so on...this is why I'm an English major.)
Oh, I might have to get a major or minor in history (I just thought of this right now) because it'd be easier to understand the novel's origins or to what time a book/story is referring to or the setting of some stories. And I like history.
I started reading this article for my Archaeology Today class...and I came across evolution references...urgh...this is going to be a long semester. Go Creationism!!!
I really want to watch To Save A Life.
I need to email a professor concerning if we have class on Tuesday...symposium...
Thanks!

"By Your Side"
Hey all.
I should be incredibly happy that I attended my first college football game, but I feel low. We won 42-0. It was a cool game. For one our last touchdowns, one of our guys threw the ball, a different team tipped it, then one of our guys caught it in the end zone. Pretty sweet. I went to the game with a person on my floor. She is nice and Christian (we've talked a couple times), but we just didn't really enjoy each other's company (we had those awkward silences).
I am lonely. Here, it feels like all I can make are acquaintances. There's no solid group or person I hang out with. I am sad. If and when I ever talk with the loners at a meal (I've been having to eat by myself lately :( ), they seem nice, but end up a little...odd. I don't know if it's me or if it's the people. It's like I can't find the right people that I click with. I am tolerated and can score a laugh here and there, but I'm not getting that connection I'm familiar with when I make friends. I'm getting insecure. I don't know what to do other than pray...
My roommate didn't come back last night. I was a bit scared, but let it slide because I figured she might come back late because it was a Friday night. Turns out she was taking care of a drunk friend. And she had one drink. Talk about getting me worried all the time.
I've been listening to Tenth Avenue North to make me feel better.
What a bad past couple of days (minus watching Avatar).
~~~
I signed up for English Club, Pet Awareness, Ultimate Frisbee, and Tabernacle. Most don't meet that often so I hope I'm able to juggle them all. And also find some Bible Studies to go to.
I have a crapload of homework so...(and maybe a concert to go to).
Thanks!
God Bless!
Today I'm Going To Be Productive
Hello all!
I'm still depressed about the Vikings and the weather and TVD especially.
On the up side, I saw squirrels chasing each other today. Also, I watched a squirrel bury an acorn. And I saw a baby red squirrel. It was so cute. XP
I actually read my book for class this morning. Then I had Archaeology. It was incredibly dull. The teacher spent the entire class period explaining a powerpoint on "What a statement is" and "Explanations versus arguments." We're in college. We know what a statement is. It was a long hour and ten minutes.
Then I ate lunch.
And...did homework and internet things until six when I went to a pizza party. Twas fun. Me and a bunch of peeps hung out in the basement/lounge in one of the dorms. And we all met up at 8:30 to watch Avatar.
Thanks!
God Bless!
Oh Tiiiime! Where Have You Gone??
Hello all!
Can you believe it's been exactly one week since classes started? I've already gotten behind on reading. I stayed up until 12:40 reading--or should I say skimming--a novel. Twas quite dull and boring. But--thankfully--the reading isn't due 'til next Thursday!
The printer in my dorm isn't working! It's TERRIBLE!
The day slowly, progressively was...better.
My Wellness class really made me think of how poorly I manage my time (I'm a freshman! It's difficult! I spend too much time on the computer...tehe).
I had a revelation today. In my Global Lit class, we were discussing the plot triangle-like thing (you know, the exposition, initial conflict, rising action, falling action, and denouement) and types of conflicts and I was getting excited. I don't know whether it was because I knew what we were talking about or the fact that I really enjoy English. I have yet to drop my Business to a minor...(I may drop it completely if it's boring enough). But I know I love English. Reading and writing fiction.
After my classes, I ate, ran a couple errands, and prepared for my last class of the day...German. It's excruciating to have a class at the same time as the Vikings (and more importantly TVD).
I exercised for like fifteen/twenty minutes (10 of those minutes spent on the bike).
Pizza party tomorrow! Woo!
Thanks!
God Bless!
Quick Blech!
Hey all.
I'm not excited. I just read 84 pages over the course of 12+ hours. Doesn't sound bad right? Well, I just remember the reading was due today at 11:50 and I remembered it at, oh, 9:30 last night. :P All the reading was about a research paper anyway (I get to write another one...greaaat. *headdesk*). The styling is different, and we are supposed to use footnotes or endnotes. Urk!
I have SO much to do.
Off to class!
Thanks!
A Lanyard Is A College Student's Best Friend
Hello all!
Quick note. I bombed my speech. I spoke too fast, my throat was dry and scratchy, and I skipped a funny part of my speech.
I tried a mango smoothie today (it was a free sample)...I didn't like it that much.
I still have a dirty glass sitting on my desk from last night. I need to wash it soon. Like now.
Anyways, as of 2:45 p.m., I've had a pretty good day after Oral Comm (oh, I watched three squirrels chase each other before class, by the way). I ate breakfast with Ella and Jocelyn. Global Lit was interesting. I didn't do a homework assignment! Apparently we were supposed to read 30 pages...well, under Tuesday on the homework syllabus thing it said the homework for today was the 30 pages and I looked at Thursday and that's when we were supposed to be discussing it...so thankfully all we did in class was present information we researched last Thursday. Then we started reading a story (my awesome teacher started reading it out loud and doing actions, too!).
Dinner-time was not as bad as last Thursday. Sure the place was pretty full, but I sat by someone from my Global Lit class (she invited me...so nice!!). She is super nice and funny and pretty and such a sweetie and easy to get along with. Her extremely cute boyfriend sat by her, too (what a catch!), and he is the same as her (except she did more talking...which I'm fine with). Anyways, they made the cutest couple!!
Oh, each time I've seen one of my high school classmates, he's waved and smiled at me. We sat at the same table and didn't know it today until two guys left. We waved and smiled at each other. Even though we never really talked much in high school, it amazes me and makes me happy to know how kind he is. You absolutely rock, dude!! Such an awesome person... :)
On the way to my Wellness class I ran into one of my OLs! It was nice to see him.
Wellness wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Originally I groaned and was extremely reluctant and wary of this class, but I actually like it so far. The teacher is very nice and laid-back.
I'm going to go do a crapload of reading now. And clean my dirty cup and spoon.
Thanks!
Quick note. I bombed my speech. I spoke too fast, my throat was dry and scratchy, and I skipped a funny part of my speech.
I tried a mango smoothie today (it was a free sample)...I didn't like it that much.
I still have a dirty glass sitting on my desk from last night. I need to wash it soon. Like now.
Anyways, as of 2:45 p.m., I've had a pretty good day after Oral Comm (oh, I watched three squirrels chase each other before class, by the way). I ate breakfast with Ella and Jocelyn. Global Lit was interesting. I didn't do a homework assignment! Apparently we were supposed to read 30 pages...well, under Tuesday on the homework syllabus thing it said the homework for today was the 30 pages and I looked at Thursday and that's when we were supposed to be discussing it...so thankfully all we did in class was present information we researched last Thursday. Then we started reading a story (my awesome teacher started reading it out loud and doing actions, too!).
Dinner-time was not as bad as last Thursday. Sure the place was pretty full, but I sat by someone from my Global Lit class (she invited me...so nice!!). She is super nice and funny and pretty and such a sweetie and easy to get along with. Her extremely cute boyfriend sat by her, too (what a catch!), and he is the same as her (except she did more talking...which I'm fine with). Anyways, they made the cutest couple!!
Oh, each time I've seen one of my high school classmates, he's waved and smiled at me. We sat at the same table and didn't know it today until two guys left. We waved and smiled at each other. Even though we never really talked much in high school, it amazes me and makes me happy to know how kind he is. You absolutely rock, dude!! Such an awesome person... :)
On the way to my Wellness class I ran into one of my OLs! It was nice to see him.
Wellness wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Originally I groaned and was extremely reluctant and wary of this class, but I actually like it so far. The teacher is very nice and laid-back.
I'm going to go do a crapload of reading now. And clean my dirty cup and spoon.
Thanks!
What Happened To My Day?
Hello all!
I think I've finished all my homework that's due. It's nice to be...done? My speech still needs some polish, but I'm giving tomorrow morning anyways. I woke at nine this morning and ate at 9:45 (I slacked and talked before heading to breakfast).
After breakfast, I went back to the dorm and grabbed my Wellness book and started reading Chapter 1 in this lounge-like area with a piano in it. Then at 11:30 I started to go to the library, but ended up going back to my room and bringing my wellness book with me. I showed up at the library on time for my archaeology class. We spent the entire class period finding our way around the library as looking for magazines in the hidden stairwells and finding articles and using the computer and walking the floors and reading and skimming. Then...I ate dinner with Natie, Katie, and Jason. We looked at the posters at the poster sale and made off to the bookstore. We went our separate ways then.
I had a catering training session from four to five-fifteen. It was...a bit confusing to be honest. I need me some black tennies. We walked mostly. They showed us the key box. And the Jones Conference Center where we're most likely to be catering the most. And we got a small handbook.
I still miss home. And family. And friends especially. And freezing my butt off at football games.
Anyways, after catering, I worked on my speech. I was supposed to meet up with people, but they bailed due to all the random heavy rain. I went and ate supper by myself for the first time. Later Tessa and I met up on the fourth floor (we're in the same dorm) and practiced in front of each other.
I haven't had a pop all day! :) It's so tempting to get pop at each meal because there's a pop machine. They have Dr. Pepper (or is it Pibb?), Coke, Cherry Coke, etc. I often go with Fruit Punch. Milk or chocolate milk is for mornings. I've gone through nearly a quart of milk in two days!! Okay, that may sound like a lot, but it's only four glasses of chocolate milk. I'm still thirsty. Capri Sun just doesn't do it.
After practicing, I grabbed my Wellness book (and it's eight p.m. by now) and make for the piano lounge when who do I run into? Audrey and Jesse!! We talked for, like, twenty minutes. It was fun! I showed them my room! Still no pics yet :( . They're on my camera, but I'm in too big of a hurry to finish writing this to put them up. I took the pics earlier today. I think. Did I mention I put up my poster?
Oh, we're under a flood warning watch thing. :P Just my luck...
Wish me GREAT luck on my speech tomorrow (and with my other classes and homework as well)! I need sleep...and to brush my teeth.
Oh yeah, if you need my college address, just ask.
Thanks!
God Bless!
Schedule
Hello all.
I'm not as peppy as usual lately (as you can probably tell by my lack of enthusiasm). Instead of doing my homework, I decided to finally post my schedule!
Monday/Wednesday/Friday:
Archaeology Today 11:50 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Tuesday/Thursday:
Oral Communications 8:00 a.m. - 9:40 a.m.
Global Literature and Human Experience 10:30 a.m. - 12:10 p.m.
Wellness 12:50 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Introduction to German-Speaking World I 6:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Anyways, I just got back from breakfast. Apparently there was chapel today and the choir sang! I'm so upset I missed it! I had no idea! I ran into one of my OLs and he told me about it.
Well, off to catch up on some reading. And at three, I'm practicing my speech at the library. Then at four it's off to a catering meeting. Then, I need to crack down and study-study-study!!
Thanks!
I Want To Go Back...
Hey all.
I am back at my dorm from home. I miss home already. I brought more clothes and food this time. I should be calling this place "home," but the name doesn't fit. I want to go back.
I haven't had time to do any of my homework! I've been too busy unpacking and cleaning and organizing and reorganizing. I can't keep my desk clean. It's a mess. Thank goodness my roommate isn't back yet to see me going crazy.
I am so worried about keeping up with homework! And living on my own in general. I have yet to do my own laundry. I really don't like going places alone yet. I'm worried about making and keeping friends. I wish life/time had a pause button so I could catch up.
I know I keep writing it, but I'll post pictures and my schedule up soon. :P
Oh! On the good news side, I finally got my wireless set up. I'm in my room as I'm writing. :)
Thanks!
God Bless!
Orientation Week
Hello all!
Oh, where to begin? Hm, perhaps the beginning!!
On Sunday, I left around 11 or 11:30 (Oops...we had planned on leaving at, um, 10...oh well). We moved my stuff in--it felt like soo much...but when it was all unpacked, it seemed...decent--with the help of Jasmine and her father. I'll get a pic of the room later. But I had to sign off on some papers to get my key. And I picked up my Cobber ID (VERY important...I need it for eating).
After Jasmine and I got a little settled in the room, we decided to walk around to get to know the campus better. We ended up in the auditorium at, like, 3:30 or 3:45. We were supposed to meet our Clubs there at four anyways; it was funny how we just happened upon the auditorium. Sadly, we had to split up because I was in Club 28 and she was in Club 34. Anyways, I met the group leaders (Garrett and Amanda). I was the second person there. I received my beanie and orientation book. Once everyone arrived (I made small talk with people sitting by me), we met at "our spot" aka the grassy knoll outside Memorial Auditorium. We played icebreaker games (the first game was saying our name and saying an animal that started with the same letter, for example, "Tiffany the Toucan" because Tiger was taken...but we had to go in a circle and repeat all who had gone before; next we played Bunny Bunny...no idea how to explain that; then Toilet Tag; and finally Ninja.) Then, we headed off to dinner and watched some upperclassman perform. After all that excitement, we headed to our dorms and had a meeting for the floor and met our RA and people on the floor.
Monday: We ate breakfast and then headed off for the "Hands for Change Service Project" which, for us, entailed going to a daycare center for children from low-income families and cleaned up around the place. People cleaned the walls, kitchen, shed, windows, etc. Me and three others washed tables and chairs. We had to scrub some of them down because they had paint stuck to them! Five or six of us chilled in the kitchen, eating one doughnut each, relaxing and talking. Then we got to play with the children. We had to give piggy back rides and get put in jail multiple times. Then we sat with the children as they ate (and they picked on me! lol. one ginger kept poking me and blaming it on someone else, and two girls were putting their feet on me and pretending to suffocate me with Jocelyn's beanie). After setting up mats for nap time and washing hands and having a dance party (they played La Bamba and everyone got into a conga line), we had to depart (Justin Bieber was playing...only the guys were dancing lol) and eat lunch back on campus. Then we reflected on what we did and how it helped the workers and the community. Basically we just exchanged funny stories about the children and were amazed at how much time we saved the few workers there (there were 22 of us there and each set of three or four people did 20-40 minutes worth of work at the center). At 1:45 there was a ceremony telling about what all clubs just did and the activity on campus that sponsors that. Next we were supposed to go to an Advising Seminar, but both the OLs (orientation leaders) mistook it for free time. So Garret took five of us girls on a walk to DQ. It was windy and hot out, and my hair blew into my blizzard. Dinner was with our residence hall/floor. Then cabaret. Cabaret was a bunch of upperclassman singing and dancing and showing off musical talents. It was FANTASTIC. And some of the guys were, well, you know, HOT. (One guy sang SO amazingly and I was sitting in my seat just going nuts, and then a group came on and danced and ripped off their shirts, and one guy sang a song he wrote--amazing piano playing--and there were a few bands and the MC's were hilarious. One MC dressed as Sarah Palin and sang a song about Minnesota set to the tone of "A Whole New World.")
Tuesday: Breakfast. Then an orientation seminar on Technology. Lunch (where we went around the circle and told the club our fears, then pet peeves). I ran my labtop down to tech to see how to get wireless, but I needed to buy some wireless adapter thing. Department previews were next. I freakin' got my beanie stolen by some bastard on roller blades. I--being the flippin' nice and polite person I am, though, said "May I have my beanie back, please?" and he was a dick. I am regretful to admit I spent the next hour contemplating ways to make his life heck (cancer, having him paralyzed, shoving needles into him and pushing him off a ten-story building, etc.) (and I only say "regretful" because I shouldn't be thinking of others like that, wishing them harm and all; it's un-Christian-like. But I was pissed beyond belief...though, you know me, I bottle it up and imagine acting out). I sat through the business preview and was bored out of my skull. I ran my labtop back to my dorm, but by the time I was done, I thought I had missed the start of the next preview (and I really wanted to go to the English preview because that was my preference! My favorite! My main major!). I hung out in the bathroom, texting...and still fuming over the snatch. Then, I met with my advisor (Knutson) to discuss classes and the future (there were three other students there as well). She was so awesome! She's a writing professor who loves cats! After the meeting, I talked with her about English (it wasn't a connection type of talk, but it was a start!), and she gave me a booklet and a bag. Then, there was the library tour (where we kept bumping into the student president's group and he kept repeating what Amanda and Garret were saying lol). We glanced around the Farmer's Market (basically people set up booths with food they've grown...not much though, sadly). Then we went to a science building to discuss the summer book read. I didn't say anything about the book because, um, I skimmed the entire thing in two days. What I got from it was what I already knew about staying firm with one's religion except this was about the author's life. I kept my mouth shut during the discussion because I didn't want to start a religious debate.
Wednesday: Breakfast. DS (dining services) meeting--boring and confusing...paperwork. Orientation seminar on being broke (thanks for the reminder :P ). Lunch. Orientation seminar "What's It All About" was so...INTENSE!! There were three scenes. The first was a guy bringing two friends (another guy--who was black--and a girl) to meet. It was a "drama." After the scene ended badly, we--as in the audience--were allowed to talk to the people onstage--who stayed well in character. It turned into a sexism/racism debate and people actually left the auditorium! The next scene was about a drunk guy pushing another drunk guy to drink more. The first drunk guy was having fun and drinking and his girlfriend was the least drunk of them all. The discussion wasn't too bad. The last scene was the most...unsettling. It was about rape. It was only a boy and girl onstage. They actually made-out! The girl just wanted to cuddle and not have sex, but she was sending mixed signals by touching the guy so much, and he just forced himself onto her. They didn't actually have sex onstage (pervert!). I was uncomfortable. The discussion wasn't too bad. "Wanting to watch Glee doesn't end in sex" was something said by an audience member and fellow club member to explain what the girl wanted. After that was the resource fair (booths to look at for help and such). Then we got to attend the President's Reception and Ice Cream social which was basically our club got dressed up and we shook hands with President Dovre and his wife and ate ice cream and cookies in the backyard. Then we had a photo. Supper. And sleep.
Thursday: Super busy! I'll post my schedule in another post. But anyways. First class got let out early for the Opening Convocation and Beanie Toss. More classes. Then Toy Story 3 in the auditorium!! Popcorn was served on Frisbees. I nearly cried this time. Such a great movie.
Friday: Only one class. I got to sleep in 'til nine am! Usually I had been getting up at, like, seven am (I usually stayed up watching Family Guy or something 'til eleven or midnight because I had to rest). The dance! Our floor dressed as little children with each person wearing a letter of the alphabet on our shirt! Four guys actually came to our dorm randomly looking for people to put make-up on them. They were dressed as people from the 80's. Two of them came into my room, and I took a couple pics while other people got them ready lol (they came with the 80's outfits on). Pics to come! The dance was...fun? At least people were dancing. There was no room anywhere because of all the people. You couldn't go anywhere without touching someone. Since it was a theme dance, some of the theme outfits included crayons, Lady Gaga, Jersey Shore, cowboys, togas, boys in bikini tops and jean shorts, shirtless guys, write your phone number down shirts, classy, masquerade, ninja, etc. And people showed up in normal clothes, too. All the grinding towards the end of the dance was disgusting. Seeing it on TV is gross, but seeing it in person...*shudders*. Oh, and some guy randomly tried to kiss another guy!
Funny story: At lunch on one of the first days, I was looking around and doing a whole bunch of double takes because people looked like students from high school. I did so many. So while getting in line for Italian food (that was the country this week), I see someone who looks like Jesse. He was wearing a black and white shirt and had glasses and blondish/whitish hair. His back was to me. So I looked for a bit, then he turned around. Yeah, it was Jesse!!
Random things to note:
I got two packages in the mail: One was from B&N, the other from home (cable cord).
Dorm rooms are quite dim.
I've been kept SUPER busy all week.
I had to make a trip to the library for a book I apparently didn't need, but ending up stopping by there later for a different book.
Lanyards are quite helpful.
I get three meals a day.
Thanks!
God Bless!
